Product Description

Hammercote smooth satin finish is a premium durable coating which provides a durable heat resistant finish for metal surfaces. As a rust resistant coating Hammercote is ideal for wrought iron, fences, gates and radiators.

This coating is fast drying and suitable for interior and exterior use. Hamemrcote is highly versatile being convenient and easy to use.

How should I prepare metal before painting?

Any loose and flaking paint should be removed and all surfaces should be cleaned, and degreased with Coo-Var Universal Degreaser. Any rust should be removed, and surfaces should be abraded to make sure an adequate ‘key’ is produced. If the surface is galvonised, mordant solution should be used to etch the surface prior to painting. 

Remove any existing rust using a mechanical sander or a wire brush.

Do I need to use a primer before painting with Hammercote?

A primer is not nessacary with Coo-Var Hammercote products as it acts as a primer and a topcoat together. However if you want the added protection you can use Coo-Var All Metals Primer. All metal must be prepared correctly.

How many coats of paint are necessary?

Typically, two coats of paint are recommended for optimal coverage and durability.

How long does Hammercote paint take to dry?

Touch dry 30 minutes, overcoat in under 20 minutes and hard dry 6 hours.

Can metal paint be used outdoors?

Yes,Hammercote is formulated for outdoor use and are designed to withstand weather conditions.

How do I prevent rust on painted metal surfaces?

Use special metal forumlated paints such as Coo-Var Hammercote that have zinc properties in them to protect the metal.

Apply paint in multiple layers for better protection.

Regularly inspect and maintain the painted surface to address any chips or scratches that might expose the metal.

Can you paint rusty metal

Yes, you can paint rusty metal, but proper preparation is essential. We recommend removing any loose rust and sanding the surface. Then, use Coo-Var Universal Degreaser to degrease and clean the surface. Apply Rust Converter to stabilise any remaining rust. Follow this by painting with Coo-Var Hammercote.
